Jim Wark was a force of nature. A whirlwind of motion, communication, music, fast-paced ideas, deep commitment and true caring for others. And always dreaming of big ideas to help those in need.
And in his last gig – as president of Virginia Voice – he was not only pressing ahead on our nonprofit’s radio reading programming and other services to benefit the blind and vision impaired in Central Virginia, but was also seeking out big ideas that would move the needle even more. His death last year was a shock to us all. Way too young, way too full of life, and with great things yet to accomplish.
The Board of Virginia Voice is honoring the memory and legacy of Jim Wark in a very special way – through the creation of a memorial fund to be called “The Jim Wark Big Idea Fund.” The spirit of the fund is to capture Jim’s penchant for big ideas to help our blind and vision impaired community, with the Board allocating grants to fund proposals for new high-impact initiatives.
Leadership donors have pledged $10,000 as a challenge to others to join them in getting this new Fund up and running. So, I am writing you to ask you for a gift with a triple impact:
* Honor the memory of Jim Wark;
* Help us match the Challenge gift; and
* Expand the range of programs Virginia Voice offers to benefit the blind and visually impaired in our region.
As we often say: “Virginia Voice is eyes for those who cannot see, hands for those who cannot turn pages.” The Jim Wark Big Idea Fund will have a dramatic impact in advancing our work on this important mission, in memory of Jim Wark, a man with a big heart and big ideas.
